6-26-22 Philadelphia

We finished our card game last nice and crowned Nathaniel Emperor!  He again beat the pants off us.

We got up this morning and went down to the buffet breakfast.  I was very good.  I didn't realize that this was Nathaniel's first hotel stay.  He was very impressed with breakfast.  He had a bowl of oatmeal with walnuts, shredded coconut, almonds and a drizzle of honey.  He then went back for waffles with blueberry sauce.  We packed up our bags and took an Uber from the hotel to the train station.  Our driver this time was from Ethiopia.  He was very nice and told us about his young family.  Our train ride was quite short - only about an hour and a half between the two cities.  We found our apartment which is in a cute neighborhood.  We walked across the street to a deli and had hoagies (grinders) custom made and took them back to the house to eat.  Dave went down for a nap while Nathaniel and I walked a block to the grocery store and picked up provisions for breakfast for the week.  I made reservations for a seafood restaurant for this evening to celebrate Nathaniel's birthday and our anniversary.  When Dave wakes up, we hope to take a walk down to the Liberty Bell.  Jaime set up a conference face time call with he and Dotty Jo, Nathaniel's aunt, and his grandmother.  They all got a chance to sing and wish him a happy birthday.  It was still quite hot out so Dave opted not to walk to the Liberty Bell.  Nathaniel and I did the mile down and got to see it.

We will go into the pavilion and read the story of it tomorrow.  I just wanted to give him a taste today.  When we got back we walked to dinner.  I had made a reservation at a seafood restaurant.  I am laughing as I write this: the restaurant which looked awesome online was a tiny little take out place with three tables.  We should have walked out, but didn't.  We ordered Old Bay shrimp dinners with new potatoes and broccoli.  When they came he handed us a pile of paper towels and plastic gloves to peel the shrimp.  He did give us forks when we asked for them.  They were so spicy though that Nathaniel and I felt like our lips were burning!  I managed to eat two shrimp, 2 pieces of broccoli and one potato and drank a whole bottle of water.  My mouth was on fire!  Nathaniel didn't manage much more than I and he drank three bottles of water!  Dave fared a bit better - the spiciness didn't seem to bother him as much.  We laughed about it on the way home:  booking a table and then not being able to eat and enjoy the dinner.  What a disaster!  We stopped at a convenience store to get something to put out the fire.  I had a Neapolitan ice cream sandwich, Nathaniel had a huge oatmeal raisin cooky and Dave had an orange soda.  I have booked a really nice restaurant just down the street from us for Wednesday night where we will have our delayed birthday/anniversary celebration.
